Short term contract: Food + Beverage Assistant

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is a short-term, temporary contract role for onsite support at the TEDMonterey conference in Monterey, California. You may be asked to work some or all of the dates between July 26-August 4, 2021. 

As a Food + Beverage Assistant, you’ll support the Experience Production team across all Food and Beverage programs at TEDMonterey. You might find yourself  assisting with conference catering, overseeing attendee and crew meals, managing food and beverage exhibitors, or supporting TED’s popular snack program. You’re ready to jump in wherever needed; supporting the food and beverage programs by supervising staff, setting up and tearing down exhibitor booths or managing program schedules. You’ll be communicating regularly with partners to support them operationally and ensure that Monterey County Health Department regulations and COVID-19 best practices are adhered to at all times.

You’re energetic and detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic. You have prior food and beverage, catering or client relations experience and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You’re proactive and resourceful, able to think critically, and be calm and discreet when solving problems. You follow instruction well and are comfortable working under minimal supervision.

This is a labour intensive position. You must be able bodied and willing to lift and move at least 50lbs. This position involves standing and walking for long periods, and using pallet jacks and handheld dollies to transport product throughout the conference spaces. 

TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Setup of all food and beverage signage, exhibits, snack stations, fridges and water stations
  • Maintenance of snack program, including merchandising, restocking, inventory and delegation of tasks
  • Oversee catering, food truck service and invite-only lunches,dinners and parties
  • Ensure that Monterey County Health Department regulations and COVID-19 best practices are adhered to at all times
  • Manage time effectively, working with your team to prioritize and complete tasks, delegating where appropriate 
  • Work with the Experience Production team and external partners and stakeholders to ensure the success of their programs

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS

  • Previous experience in a food and beverage or catering role is required 
  • Experience leading a food and beverage program is an asset 
  • Foodsafe Level 1 is an asset 
  • Able to work well under little supervision, with excellent time management skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Proactive and resourceful
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills 
  • Organized and detail-oriented 
  • Calm, kind and discreet 
  • Fluent in English 
  • Able to stand for long periods, and participate in physical work and heavy lifting up to 50 lbs
