Position overview
TED’s mission is to spread ideas through live events and recorded media. As a Web Player Engineer, you will be responsible for TED’s streaming video players on ted.com and elsewhere, delivering live & on-demand media to millions of people around the world.
Requirements
- Highly fluent in JavaScript, especially with web video and audio APIs
- Strong understanding of streaming media technologies such as HLS
- Experience designing libraries and APIs for other developers
- Experience with video metrics and with data-based decision making
- Familiarity with video advertising protocols like VAST and VPAID
- Experience with hls.js or other MSE-based libraries is a plus
- Experience with react is a plus
Responsibilities
- Create and maintain libraries that front-end developers can use to build unique and compelling video experiences for TED’s digital products
- Monitor video quality and improve performance wherever possible
- Maintain and support advertising integrations
- Influence and guide the direction of our video products and technology
- Experiment with new technologies and share discoveries with the team
- Clearly communicate technical constraints and opportunities with stakeholders
- Travel: upon request / as needed
