TED is looking for a visionary, experienced leader to head up its Global Business Development and Content Partnerships Team. This is one of TED’s core growth and revenue-oriented teams, charged with bringing TED content to audiences around the world in accessible, innovative and intuitive ways. In one capacity, the team establishes partnerships that license TED Talks, the TED brand and other content/IP to external parties, driving revenue and audience reach for the organization. In another, the team closely collaborates with partners to develop new, co-branded content and lines of business that further evolve the TED brand. NPR’s TED Radio Hour is a flagship example of this, among many others in podcasts/audio, streaming video and artificial intelligence. More generally, the distribution team provides business development support to teams and initiatives across the TED organization, from TEDx to TED-Ed to Countdown, in service of their growth and success.
TED has ambitious revenue, content and audience development goals in any year, but this is especially true in 2021. The Director of Global Business Development and Content Partnerships will be responsible for rapidly scaling each of these key areas through creative, mutually-successful partnerships in every area of media and beyond. This person must have an inspired vision and strategy for how the TED brand and its content can evolve, coupled with an opportunistic drive to discover untapped revenue streams and audiences. They must be a veteran negotiator and business development professional, able to recognize strategic opportunities and to generate a full pipeline of partnerships organically, through cold outreach and/or a deep network of contacts in the media and entertainment businesses. For existing partners in the TED ecosystem, they must have a strong customer service mindset and recognize that our partners’ success equates to TED’s success. They must be very collaborative, both externally with partners, and, just as important, with executives and teams across the TED organization. No deal is accomplished without the close support, idea-sharing and co-pitching of other teams within TED. This person must be a highly diplomatic team player, able to build consensus and establish partnerships that generate value for every team involved. Most importantly, this person must be a true leader. They must be able to build and galvanize a small, scrappy team, manage a multi-faceted operation and mentor team members as the business of distribution scales.
This is an exciting opportunity to drive growth for the world’s leading media and conference organization, all with the aim of bringing great ideas to every corner of the globe. We look forward to hearing from you!
