Partner Success Manager

The Global Distribution & Licensing team at TED develops media partnerships, editorial programs, and education products that make TED’s content accessible to diverse audiences around the world. We collaborate with leading technology, broadcast, publishing, and other types of companies. These partnerships generate 100 million monthly views and listens of TED-branded programming including TED Talks, TED-Ed animations, and the TED Radio Hour series, and contribute revenue to help resource the organization’s goals as a nonprofit educational media brand.

We are seeking a Partner Success Manager to actively manage the daily operations of partnerships in the key verticals of Global Channel Partnerships (for example, video on demand in China with Youku and Tencent) and Travel & Hospitality (for example, Marriott International hotels, airlines, and cruise lines), and other strategic partnerships.

This person will be responsible for onboarding new collaborators; implementing the TED programming plan on partner platforms, and managing the ongoing success of each relationship. This means ensuring that the strengths of each partner and platform are being utilized optimally to achieve audience reach and monetization.

Our ideal candidate has background in the business side of consumer media and educational media, and how it intersects with the creative side. For example, having a working knowledge of good user interface design, branding, and marketing will be useful to onboarding new partnerships. The ability to spot new business opportunities with current partners is important too. This candidate should also have dedicated experience in project management and client success/relationship management. You may jump from reviewing mock-ups of a TED content implementation, to discussing video delivery deadlines, to conducting a deal negotiation, all in a day’s work.

In this role, it is important to be able to handle multiple concurrent projects, prioritize effectively, and take on time-sensitive initiatives with diplomacy, grace, and enthusiasm. This person should possess exceptional communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and cultural sensitivity. The Partner Success Manager will represent TED and its core value of ideas worth spreading, and must be able to comfortably navigate cultural and linguistic barriers in order to do so effectively.

Primary responsibilities:

Partner Implementation: Make recommendations about effective operations at the negotiation stage, manage partnership kick-off, oversee content on-boarding working with team’s Curation Specialist, and ensure partner fulfillment of commitments to implement content and TED-branded UI design.

Partner Success: Serve as each partner’s main point of contact for operations matters and manage the relationship day-to-day.

Partner Optimization: Proactively work with partners to improve the performance of each collaboration in a mutually beneficial manner to scale audience and optimize monetization.  

Partner Promotion: Identify and propose promotion opportunities based on partner strategy and platform capabilities; assist in the development of promotions plans.

Analytics Reports: With the help of the team’s Content Distribution Specialist, analyze metrics reports from partners.

Special Projects: Undertake special projects as necessary.

Required for the Position

  • A deep intellectual curiosity about the rapidly evolving media space.
  • 3+ years of full-time experience at a leading and/or highly innovative media brand.
  • Knowledge of business models and sponsorship formats for media is important.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Impeccable project management skills.
  • Thoroughness, and ability to multitask in a fluid environment.
  • Experience in content development, UI, marketing, and/or other creative areas.
  • Experience managing high stakes business relationships.
  • An overall strong understanding of online video, online publishing, mobile applications and new media platforms.

Beneficial to the Position

  • A working knowledge of a language in addition to English is ideal.
  • Experience with marketing and social media.
  • Comfort in leading important initiatives, presenting to groups, learning quickly, and assuming new responsibilities.
  • Willing to execute tasks independently, and work well with remote team members.
  • Experience with senior level executive interactions.  
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work or educational experience.
  • Fluency with Google Docs, Excel, and Keynote
